Our Commitment:
• Lakeside is committed to provide a complete range of both competitive
and recreational programs that are designed to meet the needs and
interests of members of all ages. Lakeside encourages and promotes participation
and fun for all, in a safe and secure environment.
• Lakeside is a member of the Association of Lakeshore Pools (ALPS), who coordinates communication and friendly competition among its 22 member pools.
How Does It Work?
Except for swimming lessons, our programs are normally walk-in
classes to provide maximum flexibility for parents and kids.
For swimming lessons, prior registration is required for grouping
purposes. Just drop by the pool on Sunday evening to look at the chart
indicating groups, instructors and time. You forgot to register your kid?
Don't worry, we'll find a place for him or her! Have a look on our programs:
RECREATIONAL PROGRAMS
Swimming, Water Polo, Synchro, Diving Lessons
• These programs are designed to encourage new participants who
may have an interest in a sport but are not quite ready to compete.
• The lessons, held 4 mornings per week, focus on developing the basic skills and techniques of each sport in a fun environment.
Aquafitness
• A very popular program, for members 16 years of age and over, that offers exercises and moves, performed to up-beat music, to tone-up your muscles in a low impact environment.
• Sessions are run Monday-Thursday, 11:00-noon.
• Participants organize two luncheons during the summer.
Masters & Adult Swim
• The program focuses on stroke improvement for adults of all swimming abilities, according to their skills.
• Participants optionally may compete in a summer Masters’ meet.
• Practices, which are held three times per week (Tuesday, Thursday,
Sunday), are varied and tailored to each individual’s abilities.
Bronze Medallion / Bronze Cross
• These are Lifesaving Society courses that teach lifesaving skills, rescue techniques and public relations to participants who wish to expand their lifesaving knowledge.
• Costs for materials (course book, pocket mask) and the exam fee for certification by the lifesaving Society are extra.
• Participants receive a certificate of completion upon successfully passing each course.
• Minimum age on the date of the exam: Medallion: 13; Cross: 14.
• The courses, held twice per week (mandatory attendance at all classes), are pre-requisites for the National Lifeguard program.
Leaders
• This program focuses on developing confidence, responsibility, public relations and leadership skills in our young members aged 11 and up.
•Scheduled by the Staff Leader Coordinator, participants
provide services,such as assisting with swimming lessons,
babysitting during Aquafit, gate guard duty, helping out during
Lakeside events and competitions and fundraising for their
outings. Senior leaders may also help out in the canteen.
• Participants attend special outings, such water slides or movies, to recognize their contribution.
COMPETETIVE PROGRAMS
Swim Team
• The program is designed to develop stroke improvement, endurance and speed training, and to promote and foster team spirit and camraderie.
• Swimmers compete by age group (6 & under, 8 & under, 9 & 10, 11 & 12, 13 & 14, 15 & over) in dual meets on Wednesday evenings.
• Minimum requirement to participate is the ability to swim one (1) full length of the pool unassisted.
•The 6 & under age category is designed to develop a love for swimming
while splitting the practices between park and pool activities.
• In each meet, participants may swim in a maximum of two (2) individual events and on one (1) relay team, or one (1) individual event and two (2) relays.
• At the end of the season, swimmers are selected, based on their times during the dual meets, to compete in the Section Finals of the Pools in their Section. The top 12 of 18 swimmers across all three (3) sections then compete in the Finals.
• All participants receive placement ribbons for each event.
• Practices are run Mondays – Fridays, noon-1:00 pm.
Water Polo
• The progam is designed to develop endurance and technical skills, and emphasizes the importance of team work.
• Players compete by age group (14 & under and 16 & under), separate as to boys and girls, in games that are scheduled 2-3 times per week.
• The season rounds out with tournament-style Consolation Finals and Finals.
• A mixed boys & girls Atom (10 & under) and Bantam (12 & under) round-robin tournaments are held in July.
• Two 1.5-hour practices are held each week.
Synchro
• The program focuses on the development of endurance, timing, coordination and grace, with an emphasis on teamwork.
• Swimmers learn a choreographed routine.
• Swimmers compete by age group (Junior: 12 & under; Senior: 13 & over) in the Solo, Duet and/or Teams competitions, separate as to a Summer Swimmer Meet or Open Meets, at the end of the summer.
• Practices are held 2 times per week (other practices at
coaches discretion).
Diving
• The program, which is open to all ages with basic swimmimg abilities, emphasizes expanding the number of dives the diver is able to perform and learning the proper technique to perform the dives.
• Divers compete by age groups (8 & under, 9 & 10, 11 & 12, 13 & 14, and 15 & over) in dual meets on Sunday mornings.
• At the end of the season, divers compete either in a Novice Meet for beginners and/or Finals.
• Practices are held 3 afternoons per week. |
